Up until 1936 Newton was a little hamlet, then the Royal Airforce arrived. In 1940 the base was officially opened & for the next 61 years it was an active air base.
During the 1950s the homes on Friar Walk, Fairway Crescent and Trenchard Close were constructed & became the airman’s married quarters.
In the 1990s the base was used less and less so the Ministry of Defence closed it and put it up for sale. Annington Homes purchased all the properties, made some repairs & then put them on the open market.
Once the final property had been sold the communal areas were given to Trenchard Close Residents Company Limited. Each property pays towards the maintenance of these areas. The company is run by a board of directors who all own properties & live on the estate.
If you are thinking of buying a property, it’s a great place to live. If you have already bought a property, welcome.
